We, the people of St. Jerome's Parish, Hyattsville, Maryland are a faith community of Catholic Christians who proclaim "to the glory of God the Father: Jesus is Lord."
We are united in worship and prayer, in truth and in love, recognizing that only in such unity can we reflect truly the image of our God within us: that unity which is God our Father, Jesus our Savior and the Holy Spirit our Guide and Comforter in our pilgrimage through this life to eternity.
We freely acknowledge and rejoice in the fact that the holy sacrifice of the Mass and the Sacraments are the center and focus of our lives. As Catholics living in a pluralistic society, we seek to live our lives in conformity with the value system Jesus taught us in the Beatitudes.
We give testimony to our Christian lives by the practice of the spiritual and corporal works of mercy. Empowered by the gifts of the Holy Spirit, we invite all to join us in reaping the fruits of the Spirit and in fulfilling our call as a parish community of witnessing Christ's love to the world.
We recognize that we are a diverse people, with differing social, economic and ethnic backgrounds. Spiritually, we differ in our varied graces, gifts and charisms. We welcome this, believing that such differences, lovingly accepted by one another, help us to build up the Body of Christ, the Church. In our differences, we join in affirming that there is "one Lord, one Faith, one Baptism" and that we are all united by the bond of the indwelling love of the Holy Spirit.
As a parish community and as individuals we pledge ourselves to continue to strive to be true to the commandment Jesus gave us, that we should love one another as He loved us.
We witness our belief in that unending family of the faithful which is the communion of saints. This we do in public affirmation of our Christian hope and love founded in our faith in Christ's promise of resurrection and eternal life to all who believe in Him. We enter our second century as a parish with the words of St. Paul on our lips and in our hearts: "Do all for the glory of God."
