St. Jerome School Computer Lab

 Policies and Procedures

 

1.  Respect computer lab policies.

·        Everyone using any lab (students, teachers, staff and administrators) must have a current acceptable use policy on file.

·        Do not play games on the computers.

·        Do not communicate with others online (Instant Messaging, e-mail, Weblogs, etc.) for safety reasons.

·        Only use websites assigned by the teacher.

·        Do not print from the Web. READ and TAKE notes, or copy and paste only the information you need into MS Word for printing.

·        When starting a new document or project immediately name and save it.

·        Save your work on KRAMER.

·        You must have a computer folder.

 

2.  Respect lab equipment. 

·        Immediately report any damage to lab equipment to your teacher.

·        Do not write on any surface that is part of the lab, especially (but not limited to) the computer monitor screen.  Keep pens and pencils away from the monitor screen!

·        Try not to touch the monitor screen with your fingers.

·        No eating and/or drinking in the lab. 

·        Please wash your hands if they’re sticky or dirty before you type on a keyboard. 

·        If you’re unfamiliar with the parts of the computer, please ask your teacher to explain how to use the computer.  Do not push buttons/keys wildly; do not insert sharp objects into drive bays.

·        Ask your teacher for permission before you print a document.  If the document doesn’t print, DO NOT send a second (or third or fourth) print command.  Tell your teacher there is a printing problem.

·        Never change the desktop on any computer.

·        Do not install or delete any program on any computer.

·        Do not delete any document file stored on the hard drive of any computer.

·        Do not download any program from the Internet.

·        Do not download any document from the Internet unless you previously have received permission from your teacher to do so.

·        Do not remove keys from the keyboard or any other part of the computer or its peripherals.

·        Do not insert disks or CDs brought from home (or any other place) into any lab computer.

 

3.  Respect your lab environment.

·        No eating and/or drinking in the lab.

·        Pick up your papers and other materials before you leave. Throw away papers you don’t need in the trash can.

·        Treat your computer as the expensive machine it is.  Don’t put foreign objects into disk drives or write on the screen.

·        Sit only in your assigned seat.

·        Log off your computer before you leave and turn off the monitor power.
